This amateur production of “The Murder Room” is presented by special arrangement with SAMUEL FRENCH LTD With assistance from the Arts Council of North Herts.
This very funny play is set in an English country house which (naturally) is owned by a member of the landed gentry whose new gold-digging bride has much to hide. His delightfully dozy daughter has hooked an American Millionaire but not a lot gets past the faithful housekeeper. Chuck in a couple of policemen - one of whom bears a striking resemblance to the gentleman - and you have a recipe for an evening of sheer fun and entertainment.
A few reviews from previous productions of this play:
"Really a minor gem... witty and sophisticated." - Newcastle Morning Herald
"Murder has never been this funny. A spoof of all crime thrillers... it is good clean mirth all the way. The quick, smart, extremely well-timed dialogue of Jack Sharkey comes through loud and clear with never a dull moment." - Times
"There are secret chambers, secret panels and trap lids galore. They're all operated by the most ridiculous contrivances and gloriously mucked up.... A high, mad melodrama." - Frank Harris
"Delightful ... constant humour.... A good mixture of Agatha Christie, Monty Python, and Abbot and Costello!" - Canon, Memphis
